No questions? Whats the problem with people who have questions? Well, they probably want answers People who ask questions, get answers. People who ask good questions make the leader nervous. Truth is, to a frightening degree, leaders, etc. do not know the answersquestion asking is a subversive activity. Look at each question as a slight act of transgression. RT: people who asked me questions made me nervous, people who didnt ask questions, oh that was fun, I didnt have to worry about anything. It was the folks who came in with a stack of books and had sticky notes sticking out of them that were intimidating. For better or worse, when a person opens their mouth, they are marked. Its the conventional thing to say that we live a non-judgmental society, yeah. Where does all of this start? Perhaps with asking questionsthe dialectical method is essentially jargon for a Q and A session. To accomplish this students will be provided with templates on day #1 or first week at least. Students will receive all of the same papers the students receive at Greenfield high school. On the syllabus: Give students a breakdown of grade percentages Group work/ Group Projects 10% Tests/ Quizzes 20% Notebook/class work/homework 30% Citizenship / Participation 20% (150 points) per quarter up to 50 E.C. points per quarter per student for hard work / excellent participation. Grade #1 in Aries. Individual Projects: 10% Essays: 10% Class Rules: 3 dos and 3 donts *citizenship grade will remain an A at the end of the quarter as long as you follow the 3 dos and donts Do: talk / *show respect* / work hard Dont talk over me or peers / be disrespectful / exhibit lassitude *each rule has a negative correlative* Need to crystallize the discipline process and make it consistent *control with citizenship points stare, the gaze, ctrl with the unknown factor of *Showing respect covers a lot of territorywill learn what I expect you to do in class in the opening weeks of class* SLANT/ no food / no gum/ no bathroom breaks unless you give me back the time at lunch or after school. Teacher: post grades along with citizenship and note book grade each week with a highlight Things I need to do An educator website weekly assignments weekly calendar / monthly calendar/ semester calendar look at all edge books and plan accordingly know what books the school has before leaving for summer break have syllabus ready learn how to use Turn it in.com spend time accumulating curriculum and class posters etc. Work out games Work out how to run a class discussion Design ERWCish type units * if have further Qs the website?* Need to figure out the school wide detention policy Get the blue hand chair if possible Get a lectern over the summer Use textbook to look over curriculum for the 9th grade Make sure to have the list of ELD books General Ideas for next year: Things to help / save time/ good activities Conduct student interviews in first few weeks 15 minutes per day, one student a day / have a list of creative questions to ask the person I can start with me being interviewed first Have a digital photograph with pictures / can take class pictures perhaps Greet students at the door Make a list of games: Taboo / Jeopardy / Make a list of best practices They say/ I say templates along with question frames and the Greenfield papers Order vocabulary books over the summer Consider ordering interactive readers for all students Need more posters and a well-arranged classroom For notebooks: have a sticky tab that students move from week to week to make it easier for me to find the start of the week when grading *remember to ask for note book examples Also if I have notebooks for every class, I need to stagger the days of the week that each class notebook is due for example: Period #1: Due Tuesday Period #2 Due Wednesday #3 Due Thursday #4 Due Friday *keep other examples of student work to be used for next year* Order art materials and keep for group projects Have one day a week for Problem Based learning where the kids are arranged in groups of four (quads)
